Hi! My name is Bianca Perez. I’m a civil engineer with 6 years of experience in construction and I have a master’s degree in English specialized in structures and infrastructures.

I believe my best qualities are my capacity to adapt to different working environments and my flexibility, which I have gained thanks to the cultural exchange I had by living in different countries and by studying at an internationalized university such as Politecnico di Torino. I have a great capacity to solve problems and I consider that the most important thing is to achieve good teamwork to obtain the best results.
In my last job with Ghella I work on site, on a tunnel design to transport clean water to the city of Oslo. I have always had office jobs, so it is very interesting having the experience on site and being part of the day-to-day process for the construction of this massive project. I got to learn the functioning of the TBM and the production procedure, but the most important gain I had in this work is the ability for solving problems of any kind. It is very self-fulfilling to be part of a project this big that has a positive impact on society and to be part of a pioneer company that promotes this type of projects all over the world.
On another previous job with ICON ingegneria I practiced as a structural engineer, doing structural, hydraulic, and soil analysis for roads and bridges mainly. Working in this position I developed the ability to learn in a fast and autodidactic way, and I managed to expand my knowledge as a structural engineer. On the other hand, I discovered my passion for structural analysis and fascination for large-scale constructions. My main role was doing the structural analysis: a detailed structural and load analysis; moment resistent, bending, shear force, tension and fissure verifications; reinforcement design; analysis of seismic action, some financial analysis; among others. With the hydrologist’s reports I did the hydraulic invariance analysis, hydraulic compatibility analysis and IDF curves. Last, with the geotecnic’s reports I did the soil analysis to evaluate its capacity and the foundation analysis. For the structural analysis I used Midas, for the design I used AutoCAD and Civil design, and for the soil analysis I used Geo5 or ParatiePlus, always with the support of office for the report-making and manual verifications.

Before this experience I worked for FP studio, an architecture firm where I could immerse myself into clean construction, a very interesting subject that has always caught my attention. The project consisted of increasing two levels the energetic performance of residential buildings by restructurating them. I was in charge of managing the necessary procedures to carry out the project, next a brief description of these processes. First, an on-site visit to the building to analyze the initial conditions of the structure and installations. Having done this first analysis, a study of the possible scenarios proposing different interventions and doing an energetic analysis to each scenario to evaluate the final CO2 consumption of the building using the software Ediclima EC700. The energetic and economic savings corresponding to this restructuring were presented to the client (building owners and tenants), and if the client accepted the project, continued the construction planification (chronogram), cost estimation, risk prevention program, and construction documentation. Throughout the construction, on-site visits were made to control the correct advance of this and to do quality controls. Last but not least, all the documentation was organized, and training courses for the new equipment were prepared to complete the work. Among the interventions that were carried out were the installation of solar panels, the installation of an insulating layer in the external walls, the improvement of heaters and heating equipment, and the change of external doors and windows, among others. It was a very satisfying experience, from a personal perspective, to be part of this project promoting environmental awareness and learning about clean construction.

Troughout my professional journey across various companies, I have to a clear realization: my true aspiration is to become an independent structural engineer. Investing in my oun project has been a chalenging yet fulfilling experience, allowing me to grow in the areas of engineering that I am most passionate about. This path has given me the freedom to explore my strengths and interest, and I have discover profound satisfaction in designing and solving complex problems. I am committed to my professional growth and excited to continue developing in this chosen field.
